About the Role
Banking Systems - PHP, Symfony and Laravel
We are looking for a Senior PHP Developer to build secure, reliable banking software using Symfony and/or Laravel.
You will develop backend services and integrations where financial accuracy, data integrity, and security are essential.
Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain banking applications using PHP and Symfony or Laravel.
• Build secure REST APIs and integrations with internal services and external banking partners.
• Write and optimize transactional SQL queries in MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Implement appropriate transaction boundaries, isolation levels, locking, rollback, and deadlock handling.
• Design idempotent operations and safe retry mechanisms to prevent duplicate financial transactions.
• Implement authentication, authorization, input validation, secrets management, and audit logging without exposing sensitive data.
• Apply OWASP secure coding practices and resolve vulnerabilities identified through security testing and code reviews.
• Write automated tests covering business logic, monetary calculations, transaction failures, concurrent operations, and access controls.
• Collaborate with product, QA, and DevOps teams, contribute to architecture decisions, and mentor other developers.
About you
• Strong commercial experience with PHP and in-depth knowledge of Symfony and/or Laravel.
• Strong SQL skills and practical experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL, including parameterized queries, constraints, indexing, and execution plans.
• Solid understanding of ACID transactions, isolation levels, row locking, deadlocks, and concurrent database operations.
• Experience handling monetary values with exact decimal arithmetic or integer minor units, explicit currency precision, and defined rounding rules.
• Knowledge of the OWASP Top 10 and prevention of SQL injection, broken access control, XSS, CSRF, and insecure configuration.
• Experience implementing role-based access controls, least privilege, and secure authentication and session management.
• Understanding of encryption in transit and at rest, secrets management, and sensitive data protection.
• Experience with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and dependency vulnerability management.
• Ability to take ownership of complex features and communicate technical decisions clearly.
NICE TO HAVE:
• Background in fintech, payments, or financial services.
• Experience with banking or financial ledger systems.
• Familiarity with OWASP ASVS and API Security Top 10.
• Experience with message queues, reconciliation, and reliable processing across distributed services.
• Experience supporting security audits and resolving penetration test findings.
