Aleksey Pondin Bids Farewell to FINCI After Years of Leadership
Some departures hit harder than others. This one hurts. After years spent helping to build FINCI from the ground up, Aleksey Pondin (CTO) has made the decision to step away and begin a new chapter. It’s a moment that feels both well-earned and bittersweet.
The architect behind the curtain
Aleksey wasn’t just part of the founding team, he was one of its essential pillars. From product strategy to infrastructure, platform design to partner relations, there’s hardly a corner of FINCI that hasn’t felt his impact.
He led the design of our core technology systems, shaped our payment services roadmap, and built critical partnerships. When it came to cards, Aleksey led the entire journey: from our Mastercard Principal Membership to the launch of ACS and MDES, and into our crypto co-branding initiatives.
He didn’t just work in the business, he helped define it.
A relentless work ethic
Aleksey didn’t make noise, he made progress. He wasn’t the one giving big speeches or putting on a show, he was the one making sure things worked, quietly and precisely.
He had an uncanny ability to spot issues that others missed, which he’d then fix without fuss. He brought that same focus to every project: measured, methodical, and always in motion.
That calm, steady presence shaped more of FINCI than most people know.
The man beneath the surface
For those who worked with Aleksey, his quiet manner and direct style were more than familiar, they were part of his charm. He didn’t suffer fools gladly. But once you earned his trust, you found a colleague of rare loyalty, wisdom, and integrity.
The team shared stories of mentorship, support, and quiet kindness – like one time when he showed up within minutes to help a colleague whose car had broken down on a cold winter night. That’s the kind of person he is, the kind you can call when it really matters.
He’ll be hard to replace
Replacing someone like Aleksey is no easy task. Not just because of his skill, but because of the standard he set for all of us. The systems he built, the culture he helped shape, the level of ownership he modelled, they will leave a lasting mark.
His next chapter starts with a special journey
Before Aleksey takes on whatever challenge comes next, he’s taking a moment for something even more important: his daughter. Her dream has always been to see Yellowstone National Park in the United States. And now, father and daughter are setting off on that adventure together.
It’s a well-earned break from the intensity of building a company from the ground up.
From the steaming geysers of Wyoming to the sweeping valleys of Montana and the quiet forests near Idaho’s border, there’s a rare kind of peace to be found in this wild beauty. How absolutely glorious it is that they’ll get to discover this together.
